NAN R. GRAY
Watercolor artist and knitter, Nan Gray is inspired by scenes and
encounters that are often considered ordinary—farm animals,
landscapes, buildings. But when she considers the stories, history,
cultures, and political context of these subjects, the common scenes
become extraordinary opportunities for Nan to artistically translate.
As a child, Nan’s grandfather was a hobby artist and instead of
reading bedtime stories to his grandchildren, he drew them stories.
That childhood experience started a lifelong love affair with art,
including winning her first award at age six.
Now retired, Nan spent 36 years as an educator and served as the
State of Utah’s Director of Special Education. While still an advocate
for children, she focuses more of her time on her artistic pursuits. Many
of her paintings have an air of whimsy and fun, while others are more
reflective. Her notecards are a wonderful way to share her
artistic vision with friends and family.
